Patio Gardens

Patio Gardens

Patio gardens are becoming increasingly more popular. As society moves to guard gated communities with small back yards, and no room for a garden, patio gardens are the answer.

Patio gardens are perfect for container gardening , or raised bed gardening. They are the answer for the older generationwho don't want to get down on their hands and knees to do gardening, or for those that have physical challenges. These gardens can be designed so that they can be easily reached by someone in a wheelchair.

Patio gardens make room for a productive vegetable garden or flower garden without giving up the yard that the children need.

In most cases, you can turn any plot of land into a fairly big patio garden. You can buy the top soil and other organic materials or you can get containers that include the soil and other material. You can use crushed rock in between your containers to keep the area less muddy if you live in a rainy climate.

Patio gardens do not require a plot of plantable land and time commitment to watering, weeding and generally taking care of each plant. The benefits are no more store bought tomatoes, baby lettuce hand picked one salad at a time, and juicy tomatoes that remind you of your childhood when everyone had a garden. Using self watering containers allows you to grow high producing plants in a low maintenance environment. You can be a weekend gardener or a very dedicated gardener.

The containers that you choose can be anything from a redwood window box, terra cotta boxes, hanging baskets and even an old pair of boots. You can express your design with colored pots, diverse textures and any design element that you can imagine. It can be offbeat or classic.

If you like to experiment, you do so by discovering the best watering and fertilizer approaches for your climate. You can learn how to prevent insects, pests and diseases from invading your container.in other words you can develop a green thumb even if you are a city dweller and have no country cousins.

You have the option of having your patio garden on the roof, on a balcony or a windowsill. Some of the containers might seem a bit pricey but compared to the price of tomatoes in the grocery store, I think that you will come out ahead in the long run.

Patio Gardens are a celebration of your imagination and your ability to tend to the earth. It asks you to release your creativity and not be afraid of expressing yourself in this small garden. It challenges you to start something new and reap the rewards. It makes you a gardener and it's good for your soul.
