The 2nd phase of POOL construction includes the
plumbing, steel reinforced rods, electric, creating the pool shell with shotcrete, and inspections.
Plumbing The plumbers will install the plumbing with
non-corrosive PVC pipe. This will properly filtrate
the water in your pool. If you are installing an
infloor cleaning system, this is the time that this
system is installed. I highly suggest that
you put in an infloor cleaning system. These
systems really make it easy to keep your pool clean.
Steel Reinforced Rods Reinforced steel rebar will be placed throughout
your pool shell. The steel will be of varying sizes.
They will be on the bottom of the pool, up the sides
around the skimmer and into the bond beam. These
steel rods add strength and durability to your pool
shell. They will also put in concrete spacers to make sure that the steel isn't against the wall or on
the floor of the pool. This will allow the shotcrete
to be evenly applied under and over the steel. The
amount of steel varies depending on your local soil
and climate conditions.
Electric
Your electrician will now run wire from your
electric panel to your pool pump. They will also
wire for your lighting in the pool. Ground fault
interrupter devices will be installed for protection against an electric fault. The final electrical
connections are completed just before your final
inspection.
Creating the Concrete Shell
The pool shell is pneumatically applied under high
pressure. Your pool builder will recommend either
a shotcrete or gunite concrete material. The choice
is made based on your soil conditions and year round
climate. It will have to meet the standards of your
local building codes. This concrete material will
ensure that you have a reinforced steel and concrete
pool of superior strength.
After the shotcrete is applied you have to cure the pool with water. This is usually the home owner's responsibility. You will need to spray the pool with
water up to four times a day for at least four days
if the weather is warm. Your pool builder will give
you advice on how often you need to spray the pool.
This will prevent premature curing and will minimize
shrinkage cracks in your shotcrete shell.
Note...
If you are planning on having rock work or a water
feature added to your pool, this would be done
after they finish with the shotcrete.
Inspections
During this phase detailed inspections are done by
your pool builders superintendent. Local building
inspectors are required to inspect the construction.
Your pool builder's superintendent will contact the
authorities to schedule pool construction inspections. He will then
notify you as to when the inspection will take place. You will have to make sure that the gates are
open so the inspectors can get in. After the inspections you can let your pool builder know what the status is and this will keep things moving along a bit faster.
