Solar Pool Heater

What is a solar pool heater?

A solar heater uses your pool's filter pump to make water flow through solar collectors where it is heated to the desired temperature and then directly returned to your pool. There is an automatic control that senses any change in sunlight or water temperature and this information is passed on to the control valve.

The collectors or panels can be mounted on your roof or a ground rack. The panels can be facing any direction that will be exposed to sunlight for most of the day. It doesn't have to face south as east and west facing collectors will do just as well.

The collectors are positioned facing the sun, and use the sun’s rays to heat the water running inside. Unlike solar panels, which convert the sun’s energy into electricity, solar pool heaters use the heat of the sun directly. If you live in a climate with very hot weather, the solar collectors can actually be used to cool down water when that’s necessary, by running the system at night.

Is this expensive?

The initial cost of putting in a solar pool heater is about the same as installing an electric heat pump. And of course there are no operating costs as the Sun is free.

One of the benefits is that having a solar swimming pool heater is that it can increase the value of your home.

Avoid the mistake of spending money on expensive equipment that is not designed for swimming pool heating. Unglazed collectors that are less expensive can heat your pool best.

The biggest problem with using water solar panels is leaking and detieriation of the panels. However the best panel on the market now have solved this problem. For information on this panel call: John Keller 520-906-7372.

•Less efficient than silicon cells. Efficiency levels hover around the 20% mark.•The CIGS (copper indium gallium selenium) process uses rare metals that are already in short supply. Indium, gallium and even copper prices are almost sure to rise sharply as world supplies dwindle and demand increases. Global reserves of these metals is questionable but some reports believe that indium will be gone by 2017. More disadvantages of solar energy
