Spa Design

Spa design is important to your overall comfort. It is a top priority in choosing a spa. When shopping for a spa, look for a company that offers a variety of innovative seating designs, such as lounge seating, therapy seats and ample footwells to meet your preferences and comfort.

Bench Seating Bench seating is the traditional seating sesign that is often found in circular shaped spas that you will see at hotels and resorts. These open spaced spas are great for entertaining and conversation but comfort and contour should be your priority. If you work with an acrylic spa company you will have more choices in what style and contour you choose. This has the possibility of offering more comfort and better accessibility.

Lounge Seating Lounge seating can restrict the number of seating areas in the spa, but it provides better comfort. It allows you to lay back and recline the entire body for complete relaxation. Some companies offer double wide lounges and have pillows built into each seat for added comfort. A reversible lounge allows you to have a conversation with the person next to you, as you are lying face to face.

Therapy Seats Therapy seats are designed to offer a fullbody massage. In one seat, jets can massage your neck, back, shoulders, arms, thighs, knees, calves and feet. If you want more comfort look for a molded chair. This will give support to your whole body. Some seats include wrap around arm rests which gives your arms and wrists a place to rest. A therapy seat is considered to be a top priority and one of the most used features in spas today. Make sure you find a seat that focuses on your neck and shoulders because this is an area that is most commonly affected by stress. You can find spas that will allow you to have a pillow under your head for a complete neck and shoulder massage using jets above the waterline. When considering the footwell, make sure it is big enough for several pairs of feet if you are going to have a group of people in the spa. Also look for areas with jets concentrating on your feet and calves. It can be a great benefit if you are on your feet all day.

Some of the features that are available today...

Regular and Lighted Grab Bars

These can be positioned to add safety when maneuvering in and out of your spa. Lighted grab bars add ambiance when using the spa at night. You may be able to find the lighting in different settings: dim, medium, and bright. Underwater lighting should be considered a necessity. It adds safety in getting in and out of your spa in the dark, as well as adding "moods" for special occasions. You will be able to find lighting in a variety of colors. L.E.D. is now available as well, which is more energy efficient and long lasting.

Pillows

Built in pillows that are form fitted add comfort when relaxing in the spa. Find pillows that are not easily detachable. Aquassage Pillows provide a moving massage feature which gives a deep neck massage. It is activated by water pressure and is adjustable.

Ice Buckets and Snack Areas Don't forget the ice bucket. It is, of course, the perfect place to keep your drinks cold and easy to reach while you're in the spa. Snack areas are great and can also be a good place to put towels, books and your eyeglasses.

One last thought...put your controls for the spa within reach at each seat so that you can choose the type of massage you want without having to move...
